Doris Lucille McKenzie

Doris Lucille McKenzie, 84, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Carbondale, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2008, at the Dock Terrace Nursing Facility in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, following a battle with cancer. Doris was the loving, caring mother of Peggy Frasca, a long-time resident of Lansdale and Hatfield, Pennsylvania. Doris recently relocated to Dock Terrace from her home in Mesa, Ariz, where she had lived for more than thirty years.

Doris was a full time Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma, always full of love for her family and those around her. Professionally, she worked as a bookkeeper at various office and financial institutions. She was a talented artist and member of the Mesa Art League in Mesa, Ariz. Her paintings have been displayed in Mesa and in family and friend's homes across the United States. In her later years, Doris worked in the lunch room at a Mesa elementary school where she quickly became a beloved, "adopted Grandma" for many students who often remembered her with pictures and other tokens of affection.

Doris was born April 26, 1924. She married Charles (Jack) McKenzie in 1945. The couple raised their daughter in Carbondale, where they owned and operated a well-known family business, McKenzie Auto and Radiator Repair. In 1973, Doris used her great spirit and many talents to make a new home in Mesa, Ariz., where they relocated due to Jack's medical requirements for the dry, desert air. Doris made many trips to Pennsylvania to visit her family and is well-known by family friends in the Lansdale and Hatfield areas.

Doris is survived by daughter, Peggy Frasca, of Hatfield, Pa.; grandsons Kevin Pope and wife Emily of Gilbertsville, Pa. and Sean Pope and wife Renee of Warminster, Pa.; five great grand children, McKenzie and Braydon Pope of Gilbertsville, Pa. and Nolan, Gregory, and Lydia Pope of Warminster, Pa.; and one brother Kenneth Tuthill and wife Donna of Elkville.
